In 2003 we placed 124 cats; 36 kittens; 11 dogs; 2 rabbits; 1 ferret; and 2 cockatiels — a total of 176 animals saved and placed in good homes.

Marblehead Girl Scouts’ Generosity

On Saturday, March 6, while doing adoptions at the Marblehead Animal Shelter, we had some surprise visitors. Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1058 from Eveleth School organized a square dance for all the Girl Scout Troops in Marblehead. Tammy Nohelty and Kim McLaughlin were the troop leaders. They went into our website and checked out our wish list. The scouts marched into the shelter with bags upon bags filled to the brim with supplies. There were several boxes of food for both cats and dogs. There were also decorated baskets filled with treats, toys, towels, and notebooks. Their generosity was awesome! The animals, as well as the volunteers, want to thank you for those extraordinary donations. It is truly appreciated. The girl scouts did a wonderful thing and should be proud of themselves.

Fall 2003 Fundraiser nets over $14,000 for FOMAA

Despite rainy weather and the Red Sox’s playoff, approximately 150 supporters turned out for our Pet-A-Palooza! bash on October 4, 2003. To the mellifluous sounds of harpist Nina Vickers and the Jackson Schultz Jazz Trio, we netted over $14,000 that will be used for new cages, a ceiling fan, an isolation room, and other items that will make the stay of our guests more pleasant and healthful. Attendees enjoyed a wonderful array of hors d'oeuvers and desserts and snapped up unique live auction items such as hand-made quilts, a day of sailing with lunch, a day of power boating with lunch, a day of lobstering, a trademark search service, and a folk trio performance. Other silent auction items included dinners, pet photography, massages, artwork, play tickets, and jewelry.

A huge thanks to all who contributed to the auction, whether through monetary donations, services, or food and drink — your very generous donations made it all possible!
