Faye Haley

Faye with her birthday presents

Faye Haley is a fourteen year old young lady. She goes to the Charter school in Marblehead. For her fourteenth birthday she had a party and invited her class and other friends and all in all she had forty guests. Instead of gifts for herself she unselfishly asked her guests for donations to the Marblehead Animal Shelter. They went into our wish list in our website and donated mounds and mounds of supplies, food, and toys for the animals including fifty dollars in cash.

The volunteers and the animals want to thank you for your kind deed.

Michael

Michael helps out

Michael’s mother writes:

Our dog, Alice, was at the Angell Memorial in intensive care for four days. Our son, Michael, saw how much care goes into animal care. He decided to raise money for the Marblehead Animal Shelter to help out. He sold raffle tickets for 50 cents each for a bouquet of organic summer flowers. Michael is nine years old and raised $25. He really enjoyed helping. The animals and the volunteers welcomed his generosity and help. Thanks so much!

THE ANIMAL SHELTER

By Anna VanRemoortel
Grade 5, Village School

They try to find a loving home,
To every animal that’s left to roam,
Around the streets both day and night,
The animals they find are full of fright.

The Animal Control brings them here,
To the Animal Shelter, do not fear,
Because lots of love they will share,
To all the animals in their care.

When someone opens the screen door,
Everyone looks over and hopes for,
A loving family to come in,
And find an animal that makes them grin.

When an animal is adopted they celebrate,
By hugging and kissing it as they put it in its crate,
That takes it to that loving home,
Let’s hope this happens to all animals that roam.

Horribles Parade girls

Rebecca Purchase, Abby Thomas,
Heather Purchase, and Sarah Thomas

Sarah and Abby came up with the idea to make a float for the Marblehead Animal Shelter and enter it into the Horribles Parade. Each of them drew out a sketch which we combined. The girls asked their friend, Paul Jones, if he would help build it. Off to the dump and the swap shop shed to find cages, wheels, and other useful stuff. Sarah and Abby invited their friends Rebecca and Heather to join them. Rebecca St. Onge, Sarah and Abby’s mom, helped the girls paint the fabric for the sides and draw the sign, which hung above the float. The wheels and handle were from jog strollers, the axle was from plumbing pipes, and the top was plywood. The stuffed animals were from the girls’ rooms. All the children carried donation jars at the parade. Not only did they collect $240.25 that day, but they also got second place for most original float!
